Frequently Asked Questions
Do your boomerangs fly and return?
Yes, if thrown correctly. Some boomerang designs are easier to throw and or more consistent flyers for the beginner. Other designs trade consistence for distance and other characteristics. They require more throwing experience. There are many great throwing tutorials online. I recommend that you learn the basic throwing technique and find a safe place the throw with much more room around you that you think you need. Be patient and you be rewarded.
Do you really hand paint your boomerangs?
Yes. After I shape and sand my boomerangs, they are either brush painted in acrylics or stencil painted with enamel spray paint.
What materials do you use to make your boomerangs?
All of my boomerangs are made from .25 inch thick, 5 ply Baltic birch plywood. This is a very light and tough material. It is easy to shape and paint.
Are your boomerangs water resistant?
All of my boomerangs are sealed front and back with 3-4 coats of clear enamel spray paint. Often grass is wet when you are out with your boomerang. After throwing just dry the boomerang off with a towel. If the boomerang lands in the water, it will float and the enamel seal will buy you time to retrieve your boomerang before damage is done. The enamel coating also helps with scuffing.
